Welcome to
Fair Play
What is Fair Play?
Fair Play a podcast dedicated to highlighting the challenges, triumphs, and ongoing struggles of girls and women in the sports world. Each episode dives deep into the stories of athletes, coaches, lawyers, and industry leaders who have either faced and overcome systemic inequalities, or advocated for more gender equality in athletics. We explore topics such as gender pay gaps, lack of representation, the fight for equal opportunities, inequalities in uniforms, and more.
Through Fair Play, we want to bring awareness to the stories and aspects of women in sports that are often overlooked. Fair Play refers to fighting for just and fair treatment for girls and boys in athletics, and the notion that everyone is there to do the same job, play. Join us as we amplify voices, share inspiring journeys, and advocate for a more equitable future in sports.
Who I Am
I am Talia Arovas, a 16 year-old high school varsity athlete. I started playing soccer at the age of 5 and have played competitively ever since. Throughout the years I have pursued other sports as well, such as lacrosse and basketball, and recently started playing varsity flag football for my high school this past spring. I play soccer for New York Soccer Club and Scarsdale and flag football for Scarsdale, where we were second in the state.
I was inspired to create this podcast for several reasons. One is that I recently heard Meghan Duggan speak at my brother’s graduation from the University of Wisconsin in Madison this past May, and her words of wisdom about her experience in sports and in life made me want to help others realize the same. Another reason is because of experiences I have had, my teammates and friends have had, or stores I have heard online of gender inequity. Often the challenges I would or my friends would face seem minor on the surface, but in reality they have a much larger impact than many think. By sharing stories and discussing the challenges and triumphs of female athletes, I hope to inspire change and empower others to advocate for gender equity in sports and create a more inclusive athletic environment for everyone.
